In late 2023, Maison Chenal will proudly display the world’s premier collection of French Creole and Acadian architecture, art, decorative arts and furniture. The Chenal Heritage Center for History, Culture and the Arts is responsible for the maintenance and preservation of the collection. The 501(c)(3) non-profit organization was established to preserve, interpret and present the rich history and diverse cultures of past centuries of agrarian Louisiana.
The collection was assembled by Dr. Jack and Pat Holden with the devout intention to embrace the concept of “tout ensemble” which is a French phrase that literally means “all together”. It was vitally important to them that the buildings and collection remain and are displayed together so that visitors understand the context to the pieces and how they relate to the whole entity. Many of the museum pieces have been borrowed by the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.
The non-profit is independently funded and operates from the generosity of donors. If you are interested in donating an antique/collectable, a astructure, or monetarily, please contact us.
